What happens when you work for months organising an awards evening and then with just a couple of weeks to go, you take the decision to cancel it in the interests of social distancing?
Well, after curtailing the canapés, sending back the drinks (reluctantly) and cancelling the venue, you take a deep breath and act quickly to come up with an alternative that’ll still honour the award winners and engage with an audience in an entirely different way.
Hamilton Brooke has organised the Guernsey Design Awards for many years but this is the first time we’ve had to re-organise it in such a short space of time. So…it was out with the awards ceremony and detailed presentation and in with a completely new video, setup and live stream on social media.
And what about the awards themselves, when you can’t present them in person? Immediately after the video was streamed winners were notified and sent a PDF visual of their award with instructions to print it, draw it or colour it and send it back with a picture of them and their winning smiles. The results were great – personal, warm, witty and, to reach out to those not on social media, the winners were also published as a spread in the Guernsey Press.
So…event organised, reorganised and wrapped up successfully!
